Oldsville Locals Charmed by Development on Vine Street

Oldsville locals who were apprehensive about a four-storey apartment development planned on Vine Street have been pleasantly surprised, according to community spokesperson Bob Massen.

Protests followed the sale of the former Oldsville Normal School site in 2020, with residents of the colonial neighbourhood worried that developers would take advantage of recent rezoning to build something “ugly and out of place.”

Following a lengthy submission process, the majority of those who attended the open evening on Thursday (12th August), hosted by Konstruktio Developments, were relieved and vocal in their support.

“You see those huge, angular monstrosities going up on every corner, and many residents were worried that this would be the same, but they’ve listened to the community and their plans look great,” said Mr Massen.

Konstruktio spokesperson Tīmoti Green confirmed that the team were excited to break ground and glad that they’d consulted closely with the community.

“We’ve listened carefully to the locals, and included nostalgic design elements into the project, respecting the character of the neighbourhood. We’ll also be keeping the school’s beloved sequoia tree, and engaging a local landscape architect to guide us in creating a beautiful street-facing garden. By combining modern, sustainable materials and a design that nods to the charm of yesteryear, I believe we can make this project truly special - a jewel in the Konstruktio crown, an affordable housing option for small families and local retirees, and an asset to the neighbourhood.”
